Revolving door immigration

I heard about a Korean man who lived in Hong Kong year round. He would go in for 3 months, leave to Macau and then return the next day. Is this legal? How strictly is it enforced?

That's what Brits used to do before the handover, when they were allowed to stay and work here for one year. After the one year was up, they would go to Macau and re-enter HK again and have another one year stamp!

As long as the Korean man isn't working, I presume he's on a three-month tourist visa, so I guess it would be legal. He's absolutely not allowed to work though!

An American friend used to do that, boyfriend had good job- they never hassled her at the airport, but they did eventually at the Macau ferry. People who can afford to fly are OK??

I think if anyone continues to spend considerable time in Hong Kong on a regular basis, without a visa or without a valid reason, and departs regularly just before the expiration of a tourist visa, they will eventually run into problems regardless of if they exit by air or otherwise.

I don't see why it's a problem - as long as he doesn't work or break any laws. He's just spending his money in HK. A lot of people do this world-wide - expats in Thailand often do visa runs.
