internal transfer vs. accepting a new offer

Dear All,

Is internal transfer generally easier to get approved for work visa? I am debating whether or not if I should accept the internal transfer offer from my current company or take my new offer in Hong Kong.

Below are my qualifications:

BA in Actuarial Science, UC Berkeley

Almost 2 years of product management experience in OTC Derivatives, particularly in Credit Derivatives and Fixed Income

Worked on multiple implementation projects for various central banks and federal agencies

If I stay with my current company, I will be focusing on cross-asset trading platform implementation. On the other hand, if I am taking the new offer, I will be focusing on monitoring the FX and algorithm trading activities.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think that in theory the Immigration Dept would probably be 'easier' on an internal transfer, but the same rules apply to both in that the sponsoring employer needs to satisfy why it is giving the position to a non-local. However, most MNCs would have a good process that sees most (if not all) of their sponsored work visa applications granted.

So I accepted the internal offer to take on a consultant position in Hong Kong... now waiting for my visa to be approved... finger-crossed...
