Hello,
I am in the very early stages of deciding whether to move to Hong Kong with my work. Whilst I know my work will cover me for accommodation, Visa costs etc I live with my girlfriend and have done for some time now. From reading details on various websites, it would seem people are encouraged to marry in order to come out on a dependant Visa. Before we have to consider such a possibility, I see that from the immigration website, UK nationals are allowed to go to HK for up to 6 months with no visa. Our hopes are that I move with work to HK, she comes with me and tries to find a company which will sponsor her in order to stay in the country.
My question really is this, if she is not able to find a sponsored job within 6 months. How long does she have to stay out of HK for before being allowed to come back in for another 6 months?
Thanks

Assuming she is a Brit like you, she can hop on a ferry to Macau (an hour away), have a sandwich at the Ferry pier there, get on the next boat back and get another 6 month stamp at immigration. Not to be repeated too many times though!

One of my friends has been living here with her boyfriend for over 8 years. She frequently goes to China, now and again to Macau, and around twice per year back to Australia.
She has never been asked by Immigration what she has been doing in HK. If asked she is ready to tell them her boyfriend is supporting her but not sure what the outcome will be. Take your chances I guess. Good luck.
