Good morning,

This is my first post ! We're moving to Hong Kong next summer. I am a qualified teacher ( PGCE) from France with experience at INternational Schools overseas. We are moving to HK next July and have a dependent visa. I would like to start the process to start my teacher registration but my University in the UK is anable to provide me with the course transcript I need. The college where I did it in 1995 does not exist anymore and has been merged into another university. I have a feeling they've lost all the doc from the old college.

ESF is checking my referees at the moment in the hope to get on their supply lst for next August but will my Dependent visa be enough, I wonder.

Is it going to be impossible for me to get my teacher registration without this course transcript?

After spending 2 years in Switzlerand with no opportunity whatsover to teach I am desperate to start working again !

Thanks.

Sorry to come with bad news, but you must have your paperwork in order to be able to have a validation completed.

The process is that all foreign qualifications must first be validated by Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation and when you have got your validation you can apply for a Certificate of Registration as a teacher.

ESF has a strict policy and only accepts teachers and supply that have a valid Teacher Registration in HK.

You are currently allowed to work on a dependent visa, since you will not be granted a working visa if you only have a part-time employment. I have been working for ESF Independent Schools for 4 years on a dependent visa.

If you are can't complete the necessary paperwork, you can still work as a private tutor.

If you do get hold of all the necessary documentation it is a smooth process and takes about 3-5 weeks for accreditation and 2-3 weeks for the Certificate of Registration.

Good luck with your job hunting.

Hi Frilady,

Thank you for your answer and clarification. Sorry but I haven't understood you managed to teach so long with only a dependent visa if a teacher registration is a must? I have also a friend teaching FT at SOuth Island for ESF and her teacher registration is still not completed. Anyways, today I will call my university.

Things are moving on. The Uni in England has finally got hold of my transcripts and I should receive them next week. BUT they won't give me a documenty proof of my teaching practice that HKCAAVQ requires . How can I go round this? Thanks

Hi.. I moved to HK in December 2010 and I am working in an international school. I had a nightmare getting my university in the UK to provide me with a transcript of teaching practicum, but I got there in the end. You must press them. Send an example of what you require. I have to stress that without such information you cannot receive the teacher registration in HK, and there is no way around this. Once you have it though, supply teaching will be a dream. the kids are lovely! God luck!

Thanks a lot , can't wait to get back to teaching! My file is now ready after I kept pushing this last month. I finally got all the documents I need after 5 months and I have an interview with HKCVAAQ early July where I will be able to support all my paperwork. I got accepted on the ESF supply list so I will also get a letter from them. And I have a Skype interview this Thursday morning for another international school.. things are moving on..only 4 weeks till I'm there.
