Looking for any ESF teachers to offer advice on the best way to get a job teachng in the ESF school system. I was a teacher of students with special needs in the US and I have taught for 7 years and I have a state license that does not expire until 2015. I have applied for a few jobs the last few days, but know that the main hiring period is not until Jan-March? I have taught students aged 5-19 and am open to teaching most areas. Â Any words of advice would be helpful!

I would suggest that you contact the ESF and get yourself put onto their supply (relief) teacher list.
That way you should get a bit of experience in the different schools and will be able to see what they are like. Also it will get your face known about the place which may give you an advantage when the main recruitment comes round in January.

I'm afraid you need to wait until the vacancies are published around dec/january or you can regularly check their website which is often updated since they already have some vacancies. Although at this time of year, these vacances are more temporary jobs like maternity leave.
As for applying as a supply, you need to have already the right to be employed in HK as ESF will not sponsor you. As soon as I got my dependent visa , I applied from Europe and after they checked my references I got in. Now I am going through the process of getting my teacher's registration with the help of the other school I also work part time for.
But have you considered other schools than ESF? They actually hire most of their staff from the UK so with your background, I would also contact the international american schools based here. You can check their website as most of them have a job section. ALthough saying that, ESF would be the best option for you as SEN teacher.Other schools don't have SEN kids .
Good luck!
