I'm a 25 year old female, currently living in Australia as a flight attendant. I am looking and wanting, to live and work in Hong Kong.
I was initially interested in teaching English, but without having achieved a degree here in Australia it appears this is near impossible?
I have a love for children however and would love to be a full time, live-in Au Pair/Nanny.
I am lost however, on where to start in finding a family in need of help?
Any advice or help please...

Hi Aussie,
Have you thought about applying for a position as a flight attendant over here? If you are a qualified flight attendant, that might be an easier job to find if you dont have teaching qualifications. I know there are foreigners who cannot speak chinese that work for airlines that are based in HK.
Good luck

I just saw on another thread that your partner is now based in HK. If you are married, then you can apply for a dependant visa and legally be able to work under that visa- although to get a teaching job, you will still need a TESOL at a minimum I would think.

Thanks purple cloud- I look at flight attending as my first option when looking for work but I haven't found any airline based in HK where you don't need Cantonese AND English as a min requirement? Which airlines are you referring to?
And yes, while my partner does live in HK, we are not married and not at a stage in life yet to become so.
I am more then happy to do and get the TESOL but was under the impression this was not enough of a qualification to get work as an English teacher- and certainly not enough to find work that will pay enough for me to afford rent somewhere

I have a friend who woks for hong kong airlines and she doesn't speak cantonese...although she does speak mandarin, so maybe that's why.
Assuming you move over here, would you live with your partner? if so, that would cut down your rent each month by a lot.
I don't have a degree, but I do have a TESOL diploma, which was enough for me to get a decent teaching job over here. Maybe you could think about doing that? I know there are diploma programs you can do via correspondence and you can go about it as fast or as slow as you like, so if you have a little time up your sleeve, you could try and get a diploma and then try for the school year next year. If you want any info, feel free to PM me.
