Hi everyone,

I am a highly skilled professional with a very good resume, who left my full time job due to personal reasons a little over a year ago.

Since the past 5 months I have been aggressively looking for a job again, only to find that its next to impossible to get one because I dont speak Chinese!

I am essentially a Client Services and a Conference Manager.

Does anyone have any tips on how to overcome this barrier, apart from spending time on learning the language and then applying?

Would appreciate any tips. Very frustrated with this situation.

Hi, I have been in HK since 1996 and is still unable to speak Chinese. I have worked with a couple of companies in HK and even run a testing lab in China. I still can't imagine how I was able to manage it. You have very limited options but If you really are what you say you are, then sooner or later you will find one. It takes a lot of patience and perseverance. Normally, foreigners help their own. So if your budget is not constrained, try to go out on weekends and meet some new friends. Its more likely that they will be able to help you out. Good luck.

Hi, My wife is from Hong Kong and I am Korean. We are hoping to move to Hong Kong in the near future so I am searching for a job in Hong Kong. I have over 13 years of sales and marketing experience in the FMCG sector. Currently I am a regional general manager for a MNC based in Seoul - looking after businesses in Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Anyone can give me advice on job search as a Korean who doesn't speak any Chinese?

Thanks!

Hi I am Malaysian Chinese married to HK PR a year ago. Prior to that I was living in Singapore for 14 years (I am Singapore PR) and moved to China for an assignment in oil & gas exploration project as indenpendent consultant in 2009. After my migration to HK, I went for numerous interviews and till now I still can't find a job except receiving calls from insurance companies that is looking for financial consultant (which is self-employed position)...I speak/read/write fluent English, Traditional & Simplified Mandarin, Malay/Indonesian, Cantonese and Hakka (Dialect). Was in the financial software industry for 4 years in sales supporting and sales management role. Worked for a US Fortune 500 for sales & marketing of Risk Management solutions for Asia Pacific region. Holds a BSc Degree in Business & Management Studies. I am not giving up yet as I think there might be some advice available here or perhaps I have made some wrong assumptions or expectations in terms of requirements or salary or etc. Please advise.
