Permanent ID Application

Hello everyone,


I will be in HK for continuous 7 years in the end of April this year.


My family in home country is sick and I am planning to go back for several months after I obtain the permanent ID (also to stay and travel in my home country!)


To prepare for that, I would like to quit my current job after I apply for the permanent ID (maybe in two week after I apply).

Now, my questions are:


1. Does quitting job after my application for permanent ID affect anything? I will keep my job until I apply, so I can submit the letter from Employer and Work Contract etc.


As long as my work visa is still valid, there is no issue for that?


The story is a bit complicated, but my work Visa expires in Mar, but at that time, I still have one month to go to apply for permanent Visa.


Therefore, I need to renew work visa in Mar, and then apply for permanent visa in April.


2. How can I prove that I want to make HK as my permanent living place? Since my tenancy contract is till the beginning of May, I think I will stay with my fiends until I obtain the permanent ID.


Can I say that I will be leaving HK for several months due to family issue but willing to come back? Does that affect anything?


Please advise!

Just do your normal application (gather all necessary documents, put in the application, wait for the result). Once approved, do your other stuff like taking care of your job, and family.


The questions you have, only the immigration department knows the detailed and correct answer. Just think though that once you're qualified to apply for permanent residency, you can apply (isn't that obvious?), but you need to show to the immigration department that you will not become a burden to the society.

I have a friend who was a teacher here in Hong Kong for seven years. Right around the time when he was reaching his seven year mark, he received a job offer from a university in Australia that he wanted to accept. He applied for his permanent residency and got it, despite the fact that he is now living and working in Australia.


I don't think it should be an issue.
