How about 100,000 hkd? We don't really know what will be needed. However, since the husband is a permanent HK resident, immigration will in all probability will not separate a married couple.
What the government would like to see is that the couple will not become a burden to society. So there must be (a) some money in the bank, (2) income coming in, (3) a place to stay.
So if they're going to stay with the in-laws, a letter from the in-laws saying that they're going to stay with them will help. A substantial amount of money in the bank account will prove that they will be able to survive in HK until they find a job or something. (Hope that helps).
I am born in HK as I am permanent HK resident and sponsored my wife and daughter here a couple years ago. For other reason I didn't want to move the money here under my own name so at the time I only have around $50,000 HKD in the bank and a monthly income prove of $10,000 HKD for a few months. Another important thing is that they want to know you have a permanent address, which I was staying with my parents at the time. I got their dependent visa approved within 1-2 months. If you need more help with this feel free to PM me.
Hope this help!
