Moving to HK

Hi everyone,

So I've decided to give HK because I want international experience. I also noticed that most of them want not only your expected salary but what you're earning now.

Anyway I won't disclose my financial information but it's probably at least proportionally over the average there. Well margin's not as high due to the insane high tax we pay here, it could have been worse.

But I also get in addition to public holidays, 4 weeks annual plus the christmas to new years off, plus super (10%+ is all i would say, don't want to reveal any more).

Point is, I really want to go but it might be a culture shock (well it's not like I don't work extra hours but over here it's all paid out), is it something you may get used to after a while, I'm really wanting to go for international experience.

Also I was wondering, English being my native language would that give me any benefits compared to the rest of the non-expat population? I can speak Cantonese as a second language (not as good as my English but for most purposes okay, and Mandarin as my third language (a bit worse than my Cantonese though).

I looked on jobs db and all I see is 15k for anywhere up to 5 years experience as a software developer, I suppose there's a different site that expats try then?

Hey thanks for the replies.

Cara, yes I can work there. But it isn't the point. The job I was referring to was to highlight how ludicrous the wages. Most other places a developer with similar experience would be commanding 60-80k usd a year.

I personally won't go for less than 30k and even then that's on the low side. I suppose jobs db isn't the site for expats to look at. (Also I don't want to sound arrogant, I'm willing to make sacrifices (salary wise too) but on average the salaries for the experience is not just a bit lower, but a world of difference.
