Hi everyone,
My husband has been offered a job in Hong Kong and we are currently waiting for the visa to be processed. We have sent off the relevant documents and visa form to the employer and were advised that it would take around 4-6 weeks.
Has anyone been through the process recently and know I this is realistic - it seems quick! I've read some horror stories about visas being declined - my husband has been offered a good salary (I think it's good) of $60k month and he has degree and masters. It is a specilist job so hopefully there will be no reason for declining visa but I'm getting anxious as I've read of so many being refused!
Also, is this a good salary for us to live on? I am a fully qualified teacher with 6 years experience and intend to work eventually after we te settled. I hear the teaching market is tough but hopefully I will find something.
Sorry for all the questions - we are so keen to move there and just want some reassurance really!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help :-)

Hi
visa process time is 4- 6 weeks , after submitting complete set of required documents
$60 k is sufficient for living in HK
all visa applications dealt properly ,,decisions could be vary by case to case anyway its is also depends how case is presented in immigration ,
better to take advice from immigration consultant or apply visa through private immigration visa consultant , these are my personal views
thanks

Thank you for your advice. The documents have been submitted so hopefully everything will be ok and the visa will be ready shortly. The company my husband will be working for have lots of expats working there so I guess the company know the visa process well.

Thank you for your reassurance Cara!
It is a tense time waiting for the visa so I will remain positive and proactive with regards to gathering my documents. I have not heard of getting a consultant to assist with the visa but perhaps this is a good option for a complicated visa application, though I hope my husbands is straight forward so fingers crossed it will sail through without problem.
I am thinking I would like to work in a school but may instead privately tutor, I do this I the uk alongside teaching. I have recently completed a TEFL but besides that have no experiences of teaching english as a foreign language so will explore my options once we are (hopefully) in Hong Kong.
It is strange how everyone wants transcripts of degrees and the certificate is not sufficient! My husband did not submit a transcript of his degree or masters so I hope this will not delay the visa process. I will look today into getting transcripts of all of our qualifications to be on the safe side.
Thanks again for advice - it's lovely to know there are helpful and friendly people out there - we don't know anyone so will be keen to make new friends!

Thank you for your reply - tutoring would be a good option so I will look into that when I am there. With regard to schools, I think I will need to wait until we get there and find a base before I apply though I have contacted a few schools with my cv and they replies positively saying they may have supply work for me when I arrive.
Forgive me for not knowing this but is the transcript the list of modules and credits received for my course? I should really know this but I've never even asked for it before. I have a document with the breakdown of my modules and scores which I was presented with my certificate. Apologies for all the questions!
Whilst I'm on a question asking roll, we are considering Discovery Bay to live - is this a good base or are others recommended? My husbands company provide temporary one month accomodation in central location for the fort month (probably a hotel or services apartment) so we will spend that time apartment hunting.
Thanks in advance :-))

Fantastic - thank you. I have done a little online research and like the look of DB but of course the best idea is to look when we get there. My husband has a housing allowance of $15k per month but as we want a two bed with as much space a we can realistically afford we may increase our budget to around $20-$25k, which will mean I will certainly have to get myself a job!!
I'm very excited about the move - hope it all goes smoothly and hopefully we will be over there shortly apartment hunting!
