Visitor/Tourist Visa Clarification

ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

I have done my research on the HK immigration website and these forums, and it is clear that one should not be looking for employment while on a tourist/visitor visa. However, I have two clarifications, and would be keen to hear from others that may have been successful.

1. I would think it is perfectly legitimate to engage in discussions with recruitment agents (on a tourist/visitor visa) to guage potential opportunities and more importantly prospects for success in securing any of these opportunities? Your thoughts?

2. Assuming one is lucky enough to have secured an interview while on a visit, and if one is successful, it should be ok to return to your country of residence, and coordinate with the future employer for a work visa?

Anyone out there who may have had such a positive experience?

Thanks.

When I was dealing with visa and work related issues ( a few years ago), I used an agency to handle all the administrative work (which they did very well in fact).

For what it's worth, they specifically told me that it is perfectly legal to look for a job, and even sign a contract, while here on a tourist visa or a "de facto" visa (which is what I had at the time, as I was living with my girlfriend, a HK permanent resident) before we got married), but that it is illegal to actually start work and earn any income without the appropriate work permit.

Thank you for both replies.

Observer, can I clarify the name of the agency if that's ok? I might consider the same given my situation is similar to yours.

My partner is meant to join me in HK (I am already on a work visa) on a visitor visa, search for jobs, and hope for the best. The 'de-facto' visa, from what I have read, is a 'prolonged visitor visa' and I was not sure how easy it was to obtain. Are there any other 'de-facto' visas?
