Cost of Living in Hong Kong

Hi,

This is Sunny. I got an offer in HK as an IT Professional in HealthCare domain. They offered me HK $40K /month and they said they would help me with the deposits needed to rent a home.

1. I am bachelor and I would like to stay in a 1 BHK apartment either alone or in a sharing basis. I would like to know if my salary is enough for a comfortable living in HK.

2. Do you think I could save any money after my expenses?

2. What would be the rent for a 1BHK. I am ok to travel 30-45 mins from TSIM SHA TSUI where my office is located.

3. Also what would be the monthly expenses for food, utilities like electricity, mobile bill and Internet charges.

4. What would be the cost of travelling in local transport for a month?

5. Also where do most of the Indians stay in HK.

Thank you in advance.

40k is plenty. As you are willing to travel you can easily get good value accommodation within perhaps 30 mins of TST, living costs are low here, you will be able to save a decent amount too. Of course, depends on your lifestyle - lots of people will tell you it's not enough. Most HKers live on half that.
