Dependants Visas - How much is considered enough?

Hello,

Provided God doesn't have another plans for me. I expect to move to HK soon. However I am a bit worried about my wife and daughter dependent's visas. The HK Immigration Guidebook says that the sponsor should support his/her dependents "well above the subsistence level" but.. how much is that? I will have a monthly income of 20,000 HKD. and we have about 70,000 HKD in savings. I know that the people who might see this thread do not work at the immigration office but, maybe someone has an experience. I already contacted the imm. office whith this question, but they only said: "each case is analyzed". I am just worried that once I'm there I have issues to get their visas. My daughter is 5yrs old. We have lived in Shenzhen before where I earned a bit less than that and we did fine witht he money.

Any insight or info will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

From your post, it looks like you can't change anything (increase in salary, savings, etc.). So why worry? Just do it. Immigration is not going to "separate" your family.

Btw, are you going to receive any housing allowance? That would help a lot.

If Immigration grants approval for your employment visa, chances are they will grant dependent visa for your family too.

However, if you have a choice, you may want to reconsider. Hong Kong is a very expensive city. It will be hard to live on HKD 20k/m for a family of three.

(Your child is school age. The free local schools teach in Cantonese. If you cannot accept that, international school fees run 8k/m.)

It would help a lot if your wife can find work quickly and contribute.

Good luck, and welcome to HK if you decide to come.
