Cash in hand without an employer

Hey guys.

I was hoping you could help out with the following. My wife and I will be moving to Hong Kong fairly soon (investment visa and for her a dependant visa).

She heard from a local that it's absolutely fine and a bit of a grey area to do cash in hand without an employer (she is a barber). And that it would also be fine if you would ask people on FB and other social media. Meaning she would visit people at home and cut their hair, or let people visit our apartment. So there will be no employer involved.

Getting caught if you work for an employer without a visa is quite severe, so i was wondering if you see a difference with this and with an employer.

Does anyone have any experience with the above and do you agree that it's a relatively low risk gray area?

Q5:Can dependants admitted under the dependant policy take up employment in Hong Kong?

Dependants of the following persons are not prohibited from taking up employment in the HKSAR:

Hong Kong permanent residents;

persons who are not subject to a limit of stay (i.e. residents with the right to land or on unconditional stay);

persons who have been admitted for employment (as professionals, for investment as entrepreneurs or for training); and

entrants under the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme or the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.

However, dependants of persons who have been admitted to study are not permitted to take up employment unless they have obtained prior permission from the Director of Immigration.

But i wasn't talking about it from a visa point of view. I'm talking about working cash in hand without reporting your income to the tax department. So doing it off the books.
