How to cope with a toxic work environment?

I recently started working for a foreign marriage agency, but I’ve been seriously considering quitting. It’s too bad too, since the pay is alright with the light workload. The only problem I’ve had are the people I work with. The whole office seems to thrive on drama and gossip. There is no open communication to air out issues, so addressing them never seems to happen. What’s worse is that the higher ups are insensitive to these issues, and keep coming up with useless rules that don’t do anything but aggravate the present issues, while adding new ones.

I accepted this job because I need the funds to support my daughter, who just started college. Plus, the light workload means I get to spend more time with my son who’s still a toddler. How do I cope with a toxic work environment? To folks that have been in a similar situation, how did you deal with it?
