Does anyone know much at PR? My visa ran out by a day (oops) and immediately got application in for extension. My husband's work visa runs out end of April. Immigration said go back and collect our new visas when my husband gets his work visa extension otherwise we have to pay twice.
The question I want to ask is, effectively until he gets his work visa extension I am here as a visitor. Will this gap in my visa affected applying for PR status in the future.
Just hoping someone on this forum may know the answer.

I am only 3yrs here so far but plan on staying long term so I dont want to find at the end of 7yrs that this glitch makes a difference to my application in the future. I think I will ask Immigration.
Of course, if anyone else on this forum knows anything, please let me know.
Thanks Cara.

HK Passport
Hi
I was born in the UK and have a UK Passport. I moved over here last year and am also a HK permanent resident (My parents are from HK originally)
I have a question and would be very greatful for anyone who will be able to advise me on this or has experience in this field.
I would like to apply for a HK Passport. But someone said to me in order to do this, I am required to give up my UK passport. Is this true?
Many thanks

Maz27,
You will be okay. No need to worry. You have already put in your extension application and when your visa is approved it will be backdated to the date of when it expired, so your 7 years will be continuous.

Josephine, did your parents have British nationality when you were born?
If so then yes you would need to renounce your British nationality before applying for a HKSAR passport as you are not considered a Chinese citizen.
If they were not British citizens at the time of your birth then you would be considered a Chinese national and would have no problems in applying for a HKSAR passport.

Loyd, actually that is true if you are born in HK - we both have kids in that situation so are aware of this fact. However if you are not born in HK immigration will request a lot more information. There is some very good advice elsewhere on this and people who have gone through this on another site, unfortunately I cannot post the URL to a rival!

I have a question. Can my HK-born baby with a UK passport get a Wui Heung Tsing?
I have a Wui Heung Tsing because I have three stars on my ID card, even though I am UK-born to a HK mum and a UK dad. Do I only need to take my baby's birth certificate to the China Travel Service, or will they also be expecting me to give them an HK SAR passport?
I just want my baby to have visa-free entry to China, like me.
Sorry for hijacking the thread... :-)

Slammy, does your baby have a Chinese name as well? Has the baby's birth certificate established Permanent Residency?
We had to provide the HKID card and HKSAR passport for our kids to get their return home permits. They also hold UK passports as well. HKSAR passports are dirt cheap anyway and must be applied for with/at the same time as an HKID card.

Yes, my baby has a Chinese name (although it's a "made up" name as the father is western, so the surname is not real). Baby has right of abode and can get a permanent ID card.
Technically - the baby shouldn't need an SAR passport to get the China permit because I have a China permit and no SAR passport - just three stars on the ID card. But as the baby's too young to get an ID card just now... I wonder if I can just go ahead and apply without the SAR passport.
What's the point to get the HK SAR passport anyway? I wasn't going to bother with it.

Slammy, why don't you try then?
We were told to get ID card for baby, which you can do and is part of the process for a HKSAR passport anyway.

Thanks Evildeeds... now these posts have got me thinking that maybe I'll just apply for an SAR passport for my baby. I just assumed I couldn't get it for her because she is also holding foreign passports...

Maz 27, I had about a 7 week gap between work visas when I changed jobs ( I was technically on a visitor visa for that time) but I was still able to get permanent residency when I reached 7 years.
