Notice period for leave has suddenly changed from 1 months to 3 months! Replacement contract has been given to be signed. Not signing is not really an option.


Is this corporate ruthlessness?


Is it fair to expect some compensation for being potentially tied down longer or is this the expected way of doing things in HK for a multi-national company?

it's not uncommon to do that though if it's really a larger company, you should try to resist (or not react) and see what they will do

Why is not signing not really an option? There is nothing that forces you to accept a new contract. Take it up with the labour department.

In the current economic condition I think most people would not quit their job and accept what is forced upon them. :(


GreenValleys....that is what is strange. If it really does (implied by the company) take 3 months to hire and handover, then surely the role's importance means that the pay should be higher then someone with a general (less technical) role who is on 1 months notice! This is just twisted logic...

The same thing happened in my compagny 2 years ago.

It s a question of making it more dfficult to leave for another compagny. 3 months can be a long time for a compagny with an immediate need and will definitely be more eager to take on someone available under 1 month. It is not about needing more time to replace you when you leave, it's about keeping their staff.


In my case, we were given a month salary as compensation for signing, and those who didn't sign were eventualy layed off..

You should definetely be compensated for this. It's the same as a non competiton clause.
