I have started a job where they have not given my a contract of employment. I have been promised one but never received. In the end I was told to write my own employment contract. I have been with them now 4 months and would like to know do Hong Kong employee's have to give employment contracts or can they just give verbal? And if they choose to fire me or stop paying me what can I do legally? Would be greatly appreciated for any advice.

In Hong Kong, you have no rights without a contract and verbal word is very hard to prove either way. What industry do you work in? I would check out the HK labour dept to see if they have anything to help you write one or if you can afford, get a lawyer to draw up one. Also check with the labour dept you are receiving the award wage as a minimum and what your entitlements are for MPF, holidays etc. Good Luck.

It is best to have a written contract to state things like holidays, medical, MPF etc. Strange how they want you to write the contract but use it to your advantage and try to skew it in your favour.
Currently you would have minimal rights, for example, if you are paid monthly then your notice period is 1m, holidays would be by negotiation.
Best get it all in writing
