I am a recent master's degree graduate trying to find jobs in Hong Kong mainly in the finance and management consulting areas. And its been such a painstaking experience! I applied to 50+ companies. Got rejection from 10+ companies and no response from the remaining. I connected with a renowned recruitment agency but the consultant did not really help me land a job even after making dozens of positive statements. And the weirdest thing of all, whoever i try to email do not bother to reply. Be it recruitment consultants, HRs of companies, and other connections. I am so flabbergasted! I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in my master's degree(business degree, finance specialization), a beginner in Chinese(preparing to take HSK level 3 test), but noone seems to be interested. Utterly disappointed in this city!! Any suggestions/advice will be much appreciated!!

If you are being rejected on the very application stage, you should revise your application docs. Your resume should state why you are the best candidate for this job. Your cover letter (if requested) has to state clearly your purposes and expectations. Have to agree with the OP here. HK has to have one of the worst hiring functions on the planet and that's before you get into the complete shambles that are business operations, planning and understanding needs. And I'm not just talking locals, it's the quality of the foreign friendly companies too - unfortunately the expats who land up here become part of the furniture. I've known seriously heavy hitting people across finance who have spent 1 year/2 years looking for jobs here and can't get interviews. Heck, they can't even get people out for a networking coffee. They end up packing their bags and leaving. And it's a very sad state of affairs when the blame falls on the candidate i.e. it's your cover, it's your resume. That's passing the buck if I ever heard it.
