I would love if so people gave some feedback on this, I have been offered a job in HK and Im curretly in town looking around. For a single guy in HK, is $HK46000 p/mth ok? this is before Tax etc.

I would like a fairly nice apartment in Wan Chai and of course be able to also save some money. The cost of living here is difficult for me to work out.

Appreciate any feedback :-)

That spending amount is outrageous. This is more realistic:

Rent 11000

Electricity 400. Use a fan rather than the A/C

Gas 60. Limit the time for your shower

Food ( in/out and beer) - 2000. Beer is $11 in the supermarket for 1.5L. Eat at the HK cafe's for less than $25 a meal.

Tv & Internet & Landline - 200. Who needs cable or landline. Skype is free.

Cell Phone - 100. Get a pre-paid, its cheaper.

Transport - 1,500. Use public transport, its cheaper.

Entertainment, Holiday Saving -> highly subjective

"Entertainment, Holiday Saving -> highly subjective"

Its all highly subjective artfuldodger!

aussieinla was helpfull enough to give an rundown of expenditure which I don't think is outrageous at all. It is probably more accurate than your "realsitic" spending which has miser written all over it.

It is really interesting how much Hong Kong can pull out off some expat's wallets ... well, someone needs to consume all the stuff :)

I spend

1) rent: 5k / month (shared with my girlfriend, apt. w/ nice outdoor terrace, extremely bright and overlooking a temple right in SoHo)

2) expenses: 6k / month (incl. food, internet/tv, electricity, bars / beer / cocktails, restaurants, boat maintenance, transportation)

I am not a miser nor a squanderer, just a usual guy ...
