Something unexpected has happened and I now find myself with a CHIPPED canine tooth. The sharp one. Half of it missing and it hurts when I eat. There is very litte nerve damage.

Ok, he sounds expensive? How much are we talking about for a a single cap (crown) for a chipped tooth?

Mike is good and reliable. Cost me HKD 5,500 for a crown.

Dr Choy @ 82028204 / 77711770...located on Heard Street in Wanchai which is about 15 min walk from Paterson Street. Dr Choy graduated from HKU so his English should be alright. My extended family goes see him. You could call him up to check him out. Heard he is quite reasonable in price.

Also -
remember, that when you go in, HK dentists like to charge you as much as you THINK you can pay. It's negotiable sad to say. If you are blind and go in - they will charge you as much as they can get out of you. There is some negotiation room at many dentists - so depending on how "thick faced" you are - you can get a discounted price - sometimes up to 25%.
(my chipped crown replacement in seoul, top of the line CEREC crown - $400 USD.)

I had major dental work done this year which included a removal of a cracked tooth (next to my wisdom tooth), major root canal (involved 5 appts due to my instable tooth condition)and reconstruction of bridge and crown involving three teeth....it cost me less than HK$15,000 total. My dentist is excellent as he literally saw me through a very gruesome period. I gnash my teeth during sleep so he had me wear a brace to prevent my teeth from further cracking. His clinic is in Sai Wan Ho....he's fully booked in the evenings.....I would go to him though....Dr Alan Lam @25608799...no bargaining...he's very straightforward...he got his dental surgery degree from the UK. Dental cleaning is around HK$400. So, I would hop on the MTR to Sai Wan Ho which is a few stops east of Causeway Bay.
