Teeth whitening

I was hoping for feedback from anyone having used UVA tooth whitening. Were you happy with the result, did you see significant colour change and was the pain bearable??

My dentist is pushing this on me but Ive heard that bleaching trays are more effective and the results longer lasting.

Any advice appreciated

Problem with whitening is that if you drink wine and/or coffee you can expect your teeth to revert to their stained colour in about 3 months after the whitening...

Hi Huggy,

Many thks for your advice.

I think I will go for the tray and gel option after all. I too have sensitive teeth

( amazing how I can leap from that chair when they scrape) . I dont think I could go back for repeat UVA.

Thanks again for your helpful advice.

Hi guys, nice thread,

I saw ED posting:

Quote: Problem with whitening is that if you drink wine and/or coffee you can expect your teeth to revert to their stained colour in about 3 months after the whitening...

Does UVA damage your teeth permanently so you need to keep doing UVA or are you talking about in general?

i've used crest whitestrips in the past (its an american product but i think you can get it here) and it works wonderfully. lasts quite a long time. and if you experience sensitivity you can reduce the recommended dosage. for example it says to do the strips twice a day for 30 minutes but i found that my teeth got very sensitive (only for a day or so after each treatment and completely stopped after i was done) so i only did it once a day for a week and then every other day until they were all gone. and i had the same effect. it just wasn't as quick. (which is why they tell you to do it twice a day- so they can say on the package that you will have whiter teeth in 7 days.) i asked my dentist (in the states) before i started it and he said it was totally safe. (for me though)

good luck!

Hello,

I had Zoom done in HK and I was NOT happy with it as it burnt my gum on 1 tooth and since then it is sensitive. It wasn't painful during the session though.

As for the result, I must say it was very good (though chalky at the beginning but it improved after a couple of days). But I believe that the trays are safer and the results quite similar (and no damage).

However, as Ed said, if you drink coffee/wine/coke/tea and so on, it won't stay as white as it gets.

My teeth were really looking good in term of colour for 6-7 months.

If I have to do it again, I'll use the Crest soft trays (very good reviews).

Hope that helps.

Hi all,

thanks for keeping the thread alive long enough for me to reply back.

For anyone interested

Discussed my reservations with Zoom (@ $9000) and my dentist quoted me $4700 for bleaching trays using 15% gel.

My husbands dentist was $2700 for exactly the same product and strength.

Husbands teeth have gone to the top of the white scale after 2 weeks use.So Im starting next week.

Guess it will be a white christmas afterall :)

Happy New year

Hi there

I hv tried rapid white shop bought. The trays are pre moulds so don't fit well and the peroxide doesn't make good contact.

Crest white strips are good top ups but you can only do the front of yr teeth unlike bleaching trays.

Interested to hear if anyone has tried anything else.

Hey,

I have also used Crest White Strips in the past. you can buy them in any watsons or mannings for i think a 2 week supply for about 150$ (or less)

You will see results if done properly. teeth might feel a bit sensitive after a few days but nothing seriuos at all.

teeth with start turning whiter after about 3 days.

i would definitely recommend giving them a go.

just need to put them in for 30 minutes while watching tv or reading the newspaper or something.

im pretty sure it says twice a day but i think i only ever put them in once a day and saw results.

let me know how you go!

Just in case anyone wants info on pricing...if you go to the dentist and ask for the gel and trays, they will normally provide you with Opalescence trays (after they fit a mould to your teeth), and Opalescence 15% strength gel. For the trays and 8 tubes of gel my dentist charged me HK$2500....which i thought was reasonable compared to what others have paid...and i am getting good results with teeth, HOWEVER, i just out of curiosity searched for this product on google, and you can buy both the trays and the exact same gel (8 pack) with all D.I.Y instructions for under US$40 from Amazon.com, so thats where I will get my next dose and would recommend checking there before being totally fleeced by the dentist, charging 15 x the value for it...i understand they charge for their time, but that is taking the p*ss.....
