Only qualified orthodontists can do the work. You can google for the list (not many orthodontists in HK). From my experience, well-known doesn't mean good.

you may get only 3 minutes of treatment/ consultation after an hour wait in the clinic good luck.

I strongly suggest having your dentistry done outside HK. The prices are extortionate and the quality of dentists is scandalous.

I had a very bad experience being ripped very badly off by a denstist who ruined my teeth. When I recounted this story, everyone I told was not surprised and asked why I didn't I go somewhere for "medical tourism". I don't know where the best dentists are within a few hours flight, but two people suggsted the Philippines. Thailand's medical tourism sector has good doctors, but I'm not sure about their dentists. I've also heard South African has good dentists, but it's a little far unless you are going there anyway.

I have no names, but Google is your friend.

Allenxjl,

I would recommend you to stay in HK for your son's orthodontic treatment as it requires monthly visits.

I would suggest you visit Dr. Ma Tsun at Bayley and Jackson who works at the Central and Repulse bay clinic. However, it may take a while to book a consultation with him since he is quite busy!

Central

Podium Level, 2/F, 210-218 Jardine House, 1 Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong

Telephone: 25261061 or 25247116

Repulse bay

Shop G207 Repulse Bay Shopping Arcade, 109 Repulse Bay Road, Hong Kong

telephone: 281223458

Hope this helps!

Dear Allenxjl:

You can also find a list of orthodontists in HK at the Hong Kong Society of orthosontists website.

The link is :www.hkso.org/en/members.php

The office addresses and phone numbers are all there. Some of your son's classmates probably having braces and you can ask their parents for referrals.

Its always good to get a second or third opinion regarding your son's treatment.

Hope this helps.

Re: Bayley and Jackson dentists. I recently did an implant there and the quality of the staff and equipment was superb BUT if choose to use them ask for the price quote for procedure IN ADVANCE. I ended up paying HKD 37,000 for an implant. I had similar procedure quoted in London and it was significantly less expensive there. Also, fyi, most insurance plans do not cover any cost related to implant work.

The reason for my own foolishness was that after the implant was placed (it takes couple of months to integrate with your jawbone) I was given the bill for "implant work" for HKD 20K. Given the price tax, I presumed that was the charge for the full procedure. However, when I came for the crown placement I received a bill for "implant work Part II" for another 17K.

All in all - very high quality place with highly qualified staff, but I believe their niche market is the executive expatriates with full coverage package so caveat emptor.

A low cost place to go is the Prince Philip Dental Hospital but they may need a referral letter from a general dentist. The website is www.ppdh.org.hk

However, their appointment time is not flexible and you may have to take your child out of school for appointments. They don't open on Saturdays.

Hopw this helps.
