Hi,

I am new here. I was wondering if anyone can help me. I think i have rosacea. My face always gets red easily esp due to stress, or in the sun. I really feel troubled abt this.

Any kind souls out there know any place/ways to treat rosacea in SINGAPORE? I have searched on the internet and could hardly find any gd websites in singapore for rosacea treatment. From what i know, the only place is the National Skin Center, which i don't find it any better there.

million thanks!

Hi,

I'm not in Singapore, but I have done a little research on Rosacea because it runs in my family and my mother has had a fairly severe case since her 50's or so. A good dermatologist will know of some new treatments you can try. My mother wishes she had gone for treatment earlier, because she could have prevented a lot of scarring from the acne part. There are both oral and topical medications available.

Since you have diagnosed yourself and checked the internet, you probably already know many of the rosacea triggers to avoid, such as spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, sunburn, tuna, saunas, etc. Singapore's hot humid weather probably is difficult too.

I'm sure that there must be some qualified dermatologists in Singapore. Good luck with this, Wormy!

As far as I know there is no cure, but good treatment. I know the cream and oral medication made a big difference for my mother. It is also important to know what your triggers are. I certainly have not done all the research, though. I am not an expert, but a good dermatologist could have you try some medications.

I have rosacea and have had a great deal of success with metrogel. I had tried antibiotics before that and would have short term relief - with the metrogel - It got rid of the outbreak and I reapply now only if I feel something developing - it stops it right away.

sunwatersky, is the metrogel effect permanent?

Don't know if it is permanent. It has worked for me very well. I still tend to get red very easily, but no scarring or permanent swelling. I occasionally have minor outbreaks, but the metrogel stops it right away. Unlike antibiotics, you can keep the gel around until it expires. My sister also had it and started the metrogel earlier - she has had good results too.

Metrogel is available over the counter in Mannings here in Hong Kong - it is called "Rosex" - but it is exactly the same as the metrogel I got in Canada. It is even the same pharmaceutical company.

oh, i think its the same gel as my doc prescribed to me then. hmm it seems to me that this gel actually clogged my pores, more white and black heads are formed around my cheeks and nose area. Do you all have that prob?

Have not had that problem, but have had an outbreak since I last posted. the Rosex seems to be calming it down, but it does take some time. I only apply the gel in areas that are inflamed.

I get severe outbreaks about once a month but if I realise I'm gong to have an attack I take tetracyclin 250 mg 3 times a day for about a week to ten days and use metrogel. I don't know if this helps or if the attack would just work it's way out anyway. However, my skin is glowing after the attack and then it happens all over again! I hate it!
