I am a paotgraduate in chinese and western medicine in shanghai, the treatment usually for the arthritis is NSAIDs like indometachin, celebrex, etc.do not use if he has renal disease, liver or anemia. also gastroenterological disorders. first try eccupational therapies, systemic rest up to 2 hours rest a day is enough. have u heard about articular rest? try it to relax hips and knees muscular to prevent flexion contractures. hydrotherapies, passive range motions.
here is suggestion to improve and cure arthritis:
1. boron 3 mg each meal for health bone.
2. calcium 2000 mg and magnesium 1000 mg a day also for healthy bone. plus copper 3 mg, zinc 50 mg, vitamin D3 800 IU daily.
3. DMG(dimethyl glycine) 125 mg 3 times a day to prevent further destruction of joints.
4. cerasomal cis -9 300 mg twice to anti inflammatory.
5. vitamin C 3,000 mg a day is powerful free radical destroyer aids in pain relieve.
6. vitamin B complex with niacinamide, B5 and B6 or pyridoxine to dialtating small arteries. dont take it if he has liver or gout disease, high blood pressure.
7. herbals: cat's claw is usefull. alfalfa has mineral essentials for bone formation. hot peppers like cayenne or capsicum releive pain. du huo ji shen wan is herbal medicine that is useful for RA and is sold in chinese medicine stores.
I beleive tong ren tang 同仁堂is available in HK and they have competent chinese docters there.
good luck. by the way, I am an indonesian that working in hospital in shanghai. any further question send it to jiashenmao@hotmail.com

Rheumathoid Arthritis will be very pain. Are u in HK? Do not buy medicine by your own self. And it needs long term treatment and blood monitoring. Go to government for treating that such as Queen Mary Hosp, the care is quite good.

Thanks for your help. It is actually not me who has the arthritis but our helper. She got some medicine from a governement hospital and is getting physiotheraphy, too. I just wonder if anyone has experience with alternative treatments, like acupressure or herbal medicine - preferably someone who has the problem him- or herself.

jiashenmao & selvam,
based on the info i look at, there is currently no cure for arthritis.
just meds to relieve the symptoms, and healthy dose of exercise coupled with a healthy diet to control the disease.
