There can be many causes for back pain. Some are physical and people have mentioned some of them to you already. Something not often mentioned is emotional causes. There is a lot of research to support that some recurrent back pain is rooted in emotional distress. Try to see if your episodes of back pain happen at the same periods that you are also experiencing emotional issues. If you find that the pain and the emotional episodes are coming and going at relatively the same time, you may have found your problem. If there is no rhyme and reason to your pain, it is probably physical and needs to be diagnosed. You didn't mention where on your back the pain happens, it helps to know that to help assess the possible causes. You also don't say for how long it stays when you get it. Knowing these things can help assess your situation also.

Backache - there is a vicious circle of pain causing spasm which causes pain which causes .... you get the picture. Therefore - pain relief is essential in the treatment. See a doctor, use an anti-inflammatory and analgesic, but make sure that once the pain is easier, you are getting physio +/- Pilates .... and that when better you continue to exercise regularly

Doctors used to recommend rest for back pain resulting in lots of people taking to bed and not getting any better. At a young age, the most common cause for a bad back is bad posture. Injuries, rheumatism etc are much less likely causes but may need a doctor to look at you to check.

As for treatments; painkillers of the anti-inflammatory type (such as Brufen) are not a bad idea while getting back on track.

It is probably worth spending some time on getting better by means of physiotherapy. Alternative treatments would include Accupuncture and chiropractic treatment.

No i'm definitely not overweight.

I always has problem with air in my body...i cannot stand wind or even fan. but i suspect my backache is caused by rheumatism...when i was kid, i'd like to sleep on tiles floor... cause it felt cool.. "grin" though my mom didn't allow me but i didn't hear her advice.. sigh... I know it's not good for my backbones but it's too late. I've applied some chinese medicine and slightly feel better.

I'll try the accupuncture very very soon!

Reviewing other answers. I agree it could be stress, or spasm or emotional BUT it could be bony or ligament damage too. You should see an orthopedic surgeon and have a spinal and neurological examination and a spinal X-ray to be sure that this is not the cause.
