The treatment for back pain is NOT to give strong painkillers, but to treat the underlying problem. Painkillers and anti-inflammatories belong in the treatment plan, but are not THE treatment. Try seeing a chiropracter or physio as well as a good (tm) doctor - David Cosman's practice in Wellington St is good (5/F Winway Building)

I would get the problem checked out again with a specialist again as there may be other treatment options and the heavy pain killers may just mask the symptoms. Strong pain killers can provide a lot of relief in the chronic stage but best to team up with treatment and preventative work.

A definite diagnosis is important. For pain, I would recommend acupuncture or other methods of pain relief other than medication.

I would recommend you to have good manual therpay work on you, I recommend you to treat with Bowen therapy, acupuncture, as they are often provice long term result and get into the core of the problem, rather just fix the superficial pain.
