20k for implant and crown is a good deal- my friend got quoted 35K in a big Central practice In the end told him to see my dentist in Central and he paid 21k for the whole thing. That was a year back now and he's really happy with the results.

is in the price some bone grafting or bone augmentation procedure included? Like cornflour said better be referred to an implant specialist!
In Beijing have some of the most experienced implant specialists in Asia, which implant daily!
Implant surgery (no bone grafting)+crown about 12000RMB.

Hmmm, that works out as 21k- same price as in HK. Incidentaly, it seems that there's no such thing as a Specialist in Implants- my dentist told me that NO-ONE CAN REGISTER THE TITLE OF SPECIALIST in IMPLANT - not even in the US or UK and ESPECIALLY not in China where anything and everything can go on without proper governing by the health authorities.
Nearly every dentist does it- but even the Specialist in Oral Surgery are not Specialist in Implants because there are so many factors involved apart from the bone, such as the gums and the crown etc. I guess if you really want to have a top-notch-implant done, then you need in theory to visit 3 types of Specialist- one to put it in the bone, the other to make sure that the gums look nice and heal well after placing the implant in the bone and a third Specialist to put the crown on!
Better off finding a reliable dentist who and has done alot of implants, rather than being fooled into believing that a certain dentist has the registered qualification as a 'specialist in Implants" and charge you a fortune. That's what happened to my friend anyway...

Cornflower> In an ideal world visiting an oral surgeon, a periodontist and a prosthodontist (crown guy right?) to get one implant done would be perfect- but way too expensive in cost.
In practical terms, I think many people have their implants done at the GP's
I personally would prefer to visit an experienced dentist that I trust and recommended through word of mouth. The theory being, is that Specialists in oral surgery will have good experience in putting the thing in my bone, but crap experience doing the crown b'cos they don't do it as often as GP's, whereas a prosthodontist might have do an excellent crown, but the implant in the bone might not have been placed ideally. At least I know my GP has had more exposure to crown and bone together compared to an oral surgeon alone or a prosthodontist alone. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth-, but I really hope it never comes to this stage for me and my pearly whites will stay in my mouth forever and ever till end of time....*sigh*

Rotund , your detailed info. were so helpful, it's really difficult and hard to find a good, trustworthy and good reputation dentist in hong kong...
sometimes some dentist you come across only want to earn $$$ and ask you to go through all those un-neccessary dental work..
So may i ask more about your dentist which you mentioned.. Dr Raymond Lee... do you find him knowledgeable, helpful and trustworthy?
Thanks..
