Allergist in Hong Kong

ORIGINAL POST

Our family just moved to Hong Kong. My daughter has severe allergies and has been getting desensitization shots. Our allergist in Michigan recommended an allergist in Central called Dr. Adrian Wu. Apparently, he is the only American Board certified allergist in Hong Kong. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Wu? Thanks.

I too was recommended to go to him and he did some allergy tests (all negative). Allergies are difficult things to pin down but I found him to be a good doctor. I would certainly go and see him and see how you get along.

Went to see Dr. Wu. He was busy but spent almost an hour with us. I thought he was quite thorough and very knowledgeable. Glad to have someone here to look after our daughter.

His contact number is 28180180. He is in Prince's Building in Central.

Glad you agreed. I heard that allergy shots are not common in Hong Kong. I wonder why that is? They have really helped us. We don't want our daughter to take medications all the time, and the shots have been very helpful in getting her off the steroids and antihistamines. She has another year to go and hopefully will then be cured.

To: TerryWil,

Have you started trying Dr Adrian Wu, the allergist / immunlogist?

For "allery shots", do you mean injections of what caused you allergic? If so, perhaps I can tell you more. I have had undergone a skin test long time ago. This is also available in some hospital in HK. Send me a message via the Control Panel is faster.

Hi TerryWil,

It's a long story dated late 1980s. I got to rush for my lunch, I'll see how to cut the story short ....

Hi Pumpkin,

Thanks for kind concern. Indeed I browsed through 1 -2 websites on NAET therapy and is talking about it which I prefer to medications and immunological treatment (but immunology does and can work! but I am not sure if immunology also works for hives / urticaria which is said to have no known causes). Do you know anyone got his / her hives cured with NAET, in if so, in any particular centre or practician?

Hey Pumpkin,

Have you tried NAET therapy yourself? I visited Dr Lynne Lim (seem to be permanently in a tired and foggy state since living in HK) and as a result have allergies (- readings of around 80) to gluten, cows milk and yeast - so a hell of a lot of foods! Am 32 yrs and have been told this a few times in past 20 yrs!....but am deciding to take some action. Sounds too good to be true....

Tks for any feedback

Have you personally or know anyone first hand who has tried NAET treatments

Re: allergist board website & Asthma Organisation in HK

I apologise for not being able to write sooner.

This is what I can think of:

American Colleage of Allergy Asthma & Immunology

www.acaai.org

HK Asthma Society

www.hkasthma.org

tel: (852) 28956502

This society is a resource centre for patients (publications, support group, sale of medications at discount to members). I have no personal experience with it but I learnt of its existence since late 1980s. The website is in Chinese but if you would try to call and ask information in English.

By chance we stumbled on a book about more natural healing and how so many allegies are western so decided to try something different in HK where we are surrounded by Asian food options. Good advice in the book. Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford. Also we have seen Dr Graeme Stuart Bradshaw at the IMI Centre to confirm we were on the right track and things are going well. We feel way better for the changes in diet. Strangley enough I come from New Zealand where I suffered from allergies and Asthma and despite the pollution my health in HK is way better - I've put it down to the lack of grass and pollen, HK is green but it is mainly trees. Hopefully your daughter will find the same thing here - gotta say being able to breathe is really nice.
