Hi,
Hoping someone can help.
My children 2 and 4 have unusual sores on there bodies which the doctor thinks is not ringworm but looks similar to what i have seen on internet.
My son 4 has responded well to a cream for fungal infection but my daughter 2 has not. We have changed her cream three times. The second one had antibiotics and cortizone in it and made it red and infected. So changed cream and giving her oral antibiotics, slight improvement. She has four large and angry looking sores on her body, two on right arm and one on each leg. If anyone has experienced something likes this I would love to hear your views. I feel like taking her back to Australia. Thanks

What exactly do the sores look like? Could they be infected mosquito bites? There are a lot of mosquitoes out now because of the rain, and some bites on kids get really big, red and inflamed. I personally never get bitten, but my daughter is like a magnet for it. My son, too, when he was younger but now that he is a teen, doesn't get bitten as much. I can't explain why. For my daughter I have to be very vigilant with repellant, otherwise she comes home from school with huge welts from the bites.

Expand your internet search to include the words "impetigo" and "boil". See if any of the pictures you find resemble what your child seems to have. Consider taking child to a dermatologist right away if the skin lesion is in a place where a scar could be unsightly. But based on my experience as a patient myself these can take a long time to clear up and oral antibiotics are the way to get rid of it from the inside out.

Only anti-fungals will help. If not topical (creams), oral anti-fungals (even at young age) are indicated. See dermatologist or paediatrician

a rather weird tip regarding mosquito bites - in order to PREVENT getting bitten - trying eating a banana a day. Something in the banana makes your blood taste bad - and the mosquitos not so fond of you...(It sounds crazy but I use it all the time on myself and my kids.)

Hope the skin sores are all diagnosed and cleared up! But for repelling biting insects, my personal favorite is to eat plenty of B vitamins. Not that it's 100%. (An insect repellent containing DEET works too!) My pediatrician once told me that if one person in the family seems to be more of a target than others, to try adding B vitamins to that person's diet.
