Absolutely NO problem having someone in the house who has Hepatitis B.

(1 in 5 persons in HK is a carrier, all sharing households without additional risks.)

Hepatitis B is transmitted only by blood-blood contact, ie blood transfusion or sexually. Simple sharing of family life will not transmit the illness.

When living with a Hep B carrier, no special precautions should have to be taken.

We recommend all residents in HK to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B (is part of the routine HK vaccination schedule) merely because of the high carrier rate here.

There are many different kinds of hepatitis. I think Hep A is much more contagious and extremely common in China. What precautions are needed to avoid Hepatitis A and C?

Hep A spreads very easily from person to person, for example if someone goes to the bathroom and then prepares /handles your food before washing their hands thoroughly.

Anyway, this site has easy-to-read info about Hep A, B and C:

I think you really need to know what kind of hepatitis it is, in order to know if it is contagious or not and under what circumstances. My guess is that your guest will be equally concerned not to share it with you, and she probably knows what the situation is in terms of contagiousness. You may be able to get the information you need simply by asking you. However, in my opinion no one should live here without getting at least the Hep A shot.
