I need to have an x-ray done before I start work, does anyone know a cheap place to get this done in HK or am I better off going to Macau?

Cheap? An ordinary Chest X-ray is not expensive, cheaper than going to Macau even at the most expensive lab or radiologist. Any cheaper, and you would be asking for a free CXR.

do you need this to register as a teacher in hong kong? if it is for this purpose it can be done for free in a government clinic.

there should be information with the application form to register as a teacher. i am sure my school gave me a list of clinics when they gave me the application form. so ask your principal/head teacher for some more info. i went to clinic between quarry bay and north point. it was all finished in 10 minutes and the only other person there was another english teacher.
