I have a child who has a lisp and whilst this doesn't cause any difficulties she does have trouble with ther s's and z's.

I was told that i should seek assistnce from a speech therapist but am interested in hearing other people's views, plus can anyone recommend how i go about finding an excellent speech

I am a speech therapist from the Uk and working in HK. You do not need to worry about your child at present as she is only four. Once the upper front adult teeth have grown in - at about age 6 or 7 ,if she is still lisping, then you can seek some help. The fully grown teeth will often act as more of a barrier for the forward movement of her tongue. Meanwhile relax and don't draw attention to your child's lisp as this could affect her confidence. If the problem persists beyond the stage I mentioned it's then appropriate to seek help. Good Luck !

She's a bright little spark and is articulate, albeit a lisp, and i love it. It makes her unique amd is totally endearing, my only worry is that the reaction of other people when she gets to Primary/Secondary School.

Bless you Pumpkin, and yes she is adorable and she hasn't got a clue that she sounds different. When i ask her to make the 'proper' s sound she snaps back 'i am doing that Mummy, are you deaf?' love her!
