Asthma

Been living in HK for 2 years. Have a 3 year old little girl. Never seems to get rid of her cold, i.e. always seems to have a cough at night...given the levels of pollution, is this the onset or start of Asthma? Going to take her for a complete physical. Am I panicking too much? or is this how Asthma starts...please excuse the spelling if I have mispelled asthma.

It could also be an allergy. A friend's child had been fine; then he developed a bad nightly cough. I asked if anything had changed in his bedroom. Turned out he had new sheets, covers and pillows. Mum changed back to the old ones and the coughing stopped.

Asthma attacks can occur at any time, not just at night. The usual symptoms of asthma are: coughing; wheezing; shortness of breath; tightness in the chest. Although not all will be present.

You're doing the right thing by taking your girl to the doctor and getting her checked out; sometimes the "not knowing" is worse than the "knowing" so at least your mind will be at ease.

Hi I work for Dr David Stirling. He said the following, "It could be asthma or i tcould be nasal allergy. Easy to differentiate. You should consult a doctor." Call our office at 2849 7822. We are in Central near Lan Kwai Fong, in Century Square.
