Itchy Skin

Is there a vitamin deficiency or something that would cause itchy skin? I've scrubbed with a loofah and also been using a non-allergenic moisturizer. I'm just itchy all over! I can't see any rash, no redness, no peeling or funny looking skin, no dryness nor wetness. The only symptom is the itch! There's nothing for a doctor to "see" if I were to go to a doctor. For what it's worth the itchiness seems worst in places where skin is thinnest and tenderest, like old (pregnancy) stretch marks, creases of elbows etc. Well, with one exception. There's one spot on the back of my hand that's very itchy, and the skin in that one spot is a lighter color and maybe just a bit dryer. But there's so little difference in appearance that you'd have to be a hypochondriac with a magnifying glass to see it.

Maybe you have a contact allergy. New washing powder, fabric conditioner, perfume or jewellery?

Or have you been eating lots of sugar lately? Although it tends be an all-over itch, overloading the sugar consumption can bring it on.

If you don't think it's worth seeing your doc, maybe have a word with a pharmacist who might be able to give you something to soothe the itching, even if he/she can't diagnose the cause.

Itch may occur without a rash. There are a few internal illnesses that can cause itchiness (“prurigo”) and if itching like yours is persists, it is worth seeing your doctor and checking one or two things out.
