I am about to move to HK. Just want to know how much we should pay for a ordinary treatment at any GP eg. cough, flu, fever? I heard that foreigner should not go to public hospital as the bill is very high. So even say for cough, flue, fever there is no need to see doctor, only drink herba /medicine tea from the street should be recovered as what the local HK people usually do....dont know whether it is true or not...

anywhere from hk$180-800, depending on the doctor and the medicine he/she uses.
it will cost you, as a non-resident, about the same to go for private and public.

unless prescribed by a qualified herbalist or traditional chinese medicine practitioner, is it worth take the risk of taking the inappropriate decoction for your dis-eases and resulting in other complications?

if you are moving to hong kong i assume you will have residency here (through work/dependant visa). therefore you are able to go to public hospitals and pay the same rate as locals - very very cheap. although you wouldn't be going to the hospital for the illnesses you mentioned above. (i hope anyway!!) you can also go to government clinics to see a GP, these are also very cheap. but you have to wait a long time. private GP's costs are what the above poster wrote. most GP's rates are inclusive of a 3 day course of medicine. unless you neeed some special medinince which costs more.

Thanks for the info. It would pretty much give me an idea the cost of seeing a GP. I will have a working visa and so it makes the same to go to public or private (of course will go to private :)) Just wonder is there any medical insurance which is available for foreigner to buy in case there is a need to admit to private hospital ?
