Hey guys,
My throat's been killing me since the last 8-10 days. The ENT(s)
say it looks perfectly fine. I had him do an OGD today. Reports showed that the throat is alright, but the doc says my tummy has "Helicobacter pylori." I did a little online research and found that it is possible that H. pylori could be transmitted from the stomach to the mouth through gastro-esophagal reflux. So now i want to find a gastroenterologist to help me cure my throat pain. Any recommendations/suggestions/advise would be highly appreciated.

Monesh, from reading your post, I'm not clear if you are indeed having reflux or not, if affirmative, then H. pylori can be easily managed with manuka honey (provided you're not allergic to it). Most people with reflux caused by H. pylori get immediate relief after ingesting manuka honey. But it is very crucial that the proper strength is used, i.e. UMF20+ or above.
However, without your medical history it's unethical to tell you how long you need to be on it. You'll need to see a trained and qualified naturopath or homeopath to get a thorough consultation. I highly recommend Arden Wong who is a Australian trained homeopath practicing in HK. Arden has treated many naturally.

H. pylori is the bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers, right? So why not just take the course of antibiotics to get rid of it. Then if it is causing your sore throat, that will go away too. Antibiotics is the way to get rid of H. pylori (the guys that discovered this won the Nobel prize for it).

hkkm, don't know about you, but i personally would by all means avoid using antibiotics unless there is no other natural alternatives. and that's why i recommend monesh to consult a natural health practitioner in my previous post.

I dont mean to be alarmist but Helicobacter pylori also pre-disposes people to stomach cancer so it is really important to get rid of it fast and completely. I am open to all remedies but I would really recommend obtaining the specific treatments they use in HK from your Dr or Gastro. Unfortunately I am newish here and cannot recommend anyone specifically but I will ask about. There is usually just one medication to take and then you can undertake the breath test and confirm that the helicobacter has been eradicated.

Hey guys,
Sylvia: Firstly, thanks very much for your input. Though i've decided to go with anti-biotics because I wanna get rid of it ASAP. Personally, I'm always up for natural alternatives rather than taking anti-biotics, as anti-biotics not only isolates the target bacteria but also kills other "good bacteria." But living in HK the problem is time!! U know what i mean? (Boy I can't wait to retire).
Tidings: I've been sleeping with 3-4 pillows for the last 2 years. And I like all of my pillows (we take turns). Anyway, how severe was your sore throat? Mine's pretty annoying. Moreover, i've been losing my voice in the last 2 days. I really hope i'll be able to sing in my friend's wedding on Sunday!! (Fingers crossed)
Hkkm & Adelaide: I've already started the anti-biotics course. Let's check my status after a fortnight (or earlier hopefully..).

Sylvia, I wouldn't take antibiotics for just anything either, but if I have been diagnosed with something that antibiotics will cure (as opposed to just a cold or flu), then why not take them? Manuka honey may manage the symptoms, but why just manage when you can cure?

hkkm, please understand that I have to be extremely careful about using words like cure/treat because of the law. No natural health practitioner will a sound mind will make any claims like that, it's simply asking for trouble from the authority.
And, by the way, antibiotics cannot cure. Sorry to disappoint you. But then maybe we are on a completely different understanding of the word cure.
Anyway, it might serve you if you go to the website I mentioned in my post. So that you know what manuka honey can really do. I bet most of you will be amazed.
Just for your interest, the burn unit in hospitals are using manuka honey dressings to "manage" burn wounds. Also those skin ulcers (LARGE stubborn weepy pussy open wounds) that some diabetic patients develop and no antibiotics will do anything, and the last resort will be amputation, manuka honey dressings are also used to "manage" those wounds. The results are simply remarkable.
Today we are very fortunate that some orthodox medical practitioners are opened to things that they didn't learn in med school to help their patients to improve and sometimes regain their quality of life.
I am NOT saying manuka honey is for everyone and everything, far from it, because I am one of those very few who have very strong allergic reaction to it. And that's the reason why I DID make a point to Monesh in my previous post that provided he's not allergic to it, I encouraged him to try it under the advice of a qualified natural health practitioner.
Hope this brings clarity.
