I am skinny but also big-waisted. I want to remove 4 to 5 inches off my waist, but don't want to go to the gym. Any recommendations?

can't agree with HKBlue more. instead of going to the gym, try hula hoop at home. Very effective in trimming the waistline, abdomen, buttocks and thighs. Don't need to buy the expensive ones, $20 one will do the job.

Anyone know where to find one that made from rattan?

gym is not the only exercise you can do. It is not about the "where" of exercise, but about the attitude you have to exercise. If you have an attitude of seeking out exercise - rock climbing, using the stairs, sea kayaking, increased sex, window shopping at power pace - then good things can happen.

Check your BMR, get a body fat% measured, look to a change in eating habits (not less, but better, tastier, more appropriate) and focus on small steps to positive change. And yes - exercise.

jamiekoh - Tai Yuen Street (the toy street) in Wanchai. Alternatively Toys'R Us has the plastic ones, I think.

Thanks! Actually I do own a rattan hulahoop at home. And I've been doing 500 every night, but see no considerable change in the size of my waist. Looks like I need to double the count, eh?

About eating habits, I'm thinking of converting myself into a vegetarian. You think that would help?

By the way, Jamiekoh, I got my rattan hulahoop from Kennedy Town. There are a number of local shops near the last station of the tram. Can't remember the street, but you'd find a number of shops there.

quovadis - vegetarianism and veganism are not the key to weight loss. It is what you eat, how you eat, when you eat and how your body metabolize the stuff you put in. Your emotions do play a surprisingly important role in maintaining a healthy weight.

Some actually put on weight since they turn vegetarian or vegan. Honestly, I have met only a handful truly physically and spiritually healthy vegetarians and vegans in the past 16 years. And I have seen far more whose general wellbeing has been compromised since their change of diet to vegetarian and vegan.

I can't stress enough how important it is to eat right for YOU. Panacea for one can be poison for another.

Don't eat your poultry or eggs raw. Salmonella and H5N1. If you are going to eat steak tatare, make sure the beef is from a region where they don't use nightsoil for fertilizer unless you want your intestines full of worms.

Thanks for the pointer sylvialili and quavadis.

Doesn't sound good since it will eat up to my backs, does it? I do suffer from minor backache after childbirth.

jamiekoh - Have you tried Hatha yoga? There are a few basic asanas which can stretch the muscles that support your back.

sylvialili, thanks! Never tried this one. Got started with pilate recently.

If you are a Cantonese speaker, I recommend you try this yoga studio in Sheung Wan. It is run by a HK registered non-profit charitable organization.

Unfortunately my Cantonese is less than 2%. Doing better with Putonghua (70%). Do they offer classes in Putonghua?

Get on a no carb diet, hit the gym and take hydroycut that will trim you down in 4 weeks !!

jamiekoh - It doesn't hurt to ask if you can go private class with their Putonghua speaking instructor. Private class may work out better for you as you have backache.

Hi. I just want to share the good news that I lost a full inch off my waist since I started cutting back on rice.

I used to eat 3 cups of rice a day. Now it's only 1 cup a day, and it worked.

I know it's a painful way of losing inches off my waist, but I'll continue with this habit until I lose 3 inches more.

Wish me luck.

I do agree that cutting starch like rice, pasta and potatoes is enough to do a lot to our stomach inches.

Keep us posted on your progress pls !
