medical help!

My husband has been getting swollen eyes every morning since we arrived here to China one week ago. They are leaking fluid and the skin around his eyes is dry and cracked, red and puffy. We went to a foreign doctor in GZ who diagnosed it as a bacterial conjunctivitis(or something like that) & the doctor gave him meds. But his eyes are only getting worse. This problem started last year a few days after my husband dove into the dirty ocean to save a drowning man. We think he may have acquired some type of bacteria from the water. And it seems to be reoccuring but ONLY in China. He had no problems in the US while we were home for the summer. He also went to a Chinese doctor last year when this occurred. Both the Chinese doctor & the foreign doctor gave him the same diagnosis and medication.

I'm wondering if it is some type of allergic reaction to something in the air, food or water here though.

Is there anyone out there who has had similar symptoms who could offer some advice????? We are really discouraged because this is causing so much discomfort and there seems to be no answers. I hate to seem him suffer like this.

Hi,

this advice might be silly, but I kind of have dry eyes and a bit sticky as well in Hong Kong when I wake up in the morning. I know that in my case it is because of the aircondition at night. Are you using aircondition at night as well?

I hope that your husbands problem is as simple as mine.

The aircondition makes the air very dry and that might be the reason for his problems. Let me know if it helps.

Hi Iris,

Thanks for your advice. Yes, we do use the a/c at night but I think his eyes were much more severe. They looked like he was in a boxing match and lost. He is getting much better now. We went to a Chinese doctor who was very helpful and gave him some eye drops and other medicine.

Thanks again!-Cindy

Try Visine.

I encountered this problem twice when I travelled to Boston & Arizona during winter. My eyes were bloodshot , puffy lids and watery. I managed to get Visine and it cleared up within 24 hrs.

Folks around me were concerned as they thought that I may be having conjuctivitis.
