Adenoid regrowth...

My 5 yr old son, had adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy done a coupla years back. Things were ok for a bit.


We took some xrays and figured out that there is a possible regrowth of the adenoids.


He still suffers from a 'nasal' voice, cant hear very clearly and therefore speaks rather loudly.

He also seems to drool a bit when he speaks.


He cannot chew his food with his mouth shut as he tends to gag and throw up, and is refusing to eat any thing in big pieces.


He is a very active boy with excessive amounts of energy and has shown no signs of slowing down.

He also seems restless in class (cant sit still and his teacher is complaining), he does not show any signs of a learning disability though.


Anyone has a clue as to where to begin??

Will putting in grommits for his ears reduce t problem of his hearing??

What else should i be looking for?? Any help is appreciated. Thanx.

Probably worth a review with the ENT specialist to see if grommets are indicated. It is not unusual in young children for the hearing problem to persist despite surgery until they have grown up a bit more. However, it seems that his hearing may have an effect on his learning (and restlessness?) and an independent review of his hearing and ENT problem seems the first action you could take. His eating problem could be discussed at the same time.


Restlessness in boys is well known to be a normal characteristic and dose not have to be part of ADHD. Of course, he may need additional care and attention to help him to focus in class, and a session with a clinical psychologist may shed light on how he functions and how he may receive help in class.
