The best idea might be to have the cause of the irregular periods checked out. The endocrine system is very complex and many different issues can cause these problems. I personally suffered for many years from bizarre symptoms and then after 3 years and 4 doctors had a benign pituitary tumour diagnosed.
The previous doctors just dismissed it as nothing to worry about and I should count myself lucky to only get one period every 2-10 months...I knew it wasn't right!!!
A healthy body (as mine is now) will be regular as clockwork, so much so that you can set your calander to it!
