Invisalign in HK - was I ripped off?

Hello, I have been quoted $60,000 HKD for 10 trays on the top and 15 on the bottom for Invisalign.

This price seems extreme for such a simple case.

Can anyone comment on this? Does this price seem about right for an Invisalign qualified, specialist in orthodontics in HK? Or can I do alot better?

I didn't ask about Europe or the USA. I asked about Hong Kong. And I have already read this link myself on the net. I am asking people in HONG KONG who have had their own quotes or have had any personal experience in HK about the costs of invisalign.

But thank you for your reply regardless. It has not answered my questions though.

The price is roughly what you would pay for in HK. Just one advice:

Make sure the dentist is a registered Orthodontist which means they are listed as specialist Orthodontist on DCHK (Dental Council of HK) Website. This means they have undergone 6 years of trainingin Orthodontics an generally speaking SHOULD be reliable. There is a big distinction here as many cowboy dentists in HK do short term courses & start doing Invasalign.

beaches - I looked into it at some point and yes, was quoted very similar price... I think it is not just 10 trays, there is a lot involved, to get them right for your in the first place and then get them right every 2 wks or whatever it is... Anyway - similar price, which is quite a lot to pay myself i thought (no insurance would cover it) - so decided not to go ahead with it myself...

Can you receommend any orthodontists for invisalign? I have been to the invisalign HK website and lots of names but would be good to narrow the search with some referrals. Also, which ones provide free consultation?

Chillifontain, can you give me the name of your orthodontist?

Many thanks

Dear all,

Just remember all orthodontists, who are the registered specialists in the field, receive extra 5 years of training. Thus, a lot of time they might not offer invisalign because they knew the limitation of the treatment. And logically speaking, they will charge more because they are specialists.

Thus, some general practitioner who are registered with Invisalign, may offer a lower price and promise a good result. I mean they probably have a lot of experience treating cases with Invisalign, but I will still be more cautious when picking the right person. I personally would not let a GP treat my own child if they were to receive orthodontic treatment. I'd rather send him/her to an orthodontist since they know the best. A lot of time, price is a big issue, however, if you are looking at a good long term outcome and stability, going to the person who knows their stuff best is probably a better idea.

The analogy is when you have a cardiac problem, you would see a cardiologist instead of a GP, because you knew the specialist knows better to deal with the case. Same applies to dentistry.

Invisalign definitely has its drawback and limitation. E.g. I know some people would treat a patient with Invisalign in conjunction with extraction. Case selection is crucial, and from what I have learnt from school, Invisalign is not the best tool to treat extraction cases. So if you have severe crowding or when you teeth are jutting out and extraction is warranted, Invisalign might not be the best treatment option.

So good luck with your treatment folks!
