Could anyone recommend who to go with for medical insurance. I'm looking for something that would cover doctor visits, physio and possibly dentist. Not looking for life insurance just yet, just to cover basic stuff.

Thanks

Dear Wayne7

If you send me an email to Christian@kwiksure.com, I can help with this.

Life insurance is not related to medical insurance at all

If you are looking for only outpatient coverage you will find that your only options will be a local policy (when I say local, I mean locally administered and really geared towards local hk citizens and not xpats looking for decent private coverage)

The decent insurers will need you to take hospitalization coverage first and then add outpatient.

Best Regards

Christian

I have found a really great service from a couple of brokers, one I use personally and the other is sued by my company ... suggest you call Andrew Robertson of RS Insurance Brokers -3106-2938 or Joseph Chiu of Navigator Insurance Brokers - 2530 2530.

I suggest Bluecross which you would have to, like most other insurers, hospitalization and surgical insurance first then outpatient cover. But the policy will cover you seeing all expat doctors, not just the local HK ones, so no communication problems. Let me know if you need any more info.

I would suggest staying away from local policies, their plans are very restricted. Bluecross is fine if you don't mind staying on a ward but most people who purchase medical insurance want the the option of a private room and those plans are far too restrictive in the benefits, this is due to each surgical procedure having a sub-limit. When you go into hospital you don't want the worry of how the insurance company will categorize your treatment and then leave you paying the difference.

www.globalhealth.com

International cover. Exclude North America unless you travel there frequently.

Details of the policies and pricing are available on the site. insured thru AIG, but they pay claims. used them for years and had one opportunity to claim - they were respectable.

All outpatient cover is expensive because it's used and abused most frequently.

It is possible to get coverage still but depends on how old you are and how long you have suffered from this.

I am over 40, and though very healthy i discovered that premiums at my age are extortionate, and don't even cover maternity. One insurer said they don't offer maternity coverage to women of my age.

I told him i know many women who had children when they were over 44, he just cannot see how that would be possible, despite evidence.
