You should "google" it to find out more about it. Sounds like seeing a phychologist may be wise.

9-11, her OCD behaviour is not foolish. This is a serious mental condition which needs to be addressed by a psychiatrist. Sarcastic remarks don't help!! "Monk" is only a stupid TV series which is over-dramatised for entertainment.

Hi gill2008.

Apart from proper medical treatment, especially depression, people with these disorders have certain set of rules that the nearest and closest should comply to or else, it will have negative feed to the treatment itself. I really suggest that you do some serious research or talk to a counselor for advise. For example, never suggest directly ways he can become positive to a depressed person as it will be more of a burden to him, instead, when he is in the mood to do something, do it together, enjoy, make sure you have a great time. I am no professional counselor nor psycologist and what I just mentioned above is something from my own experience from the research i have done so i do not know if it applies to your case.

But one thing for sure is that the last thing these disorders need is another burden to correct their behaviour. Why it is happening can be explained by chemical imbalance of the brain, it is in overheat mode, please remember that these people have tolerated more than they can, thus, this is happening.

They really need support from the nearest and dearest. They really do not need judgement. My friend who has recovered has told me, thank you for just listening to me and tolerating me all these years.(It took her 2 years) To be honest, it is a very tiresome process and sometimes you question yourself, why am I not walking away? Sometimes they say things that really hurt you. So I think it is really important that YOU TOO maintain a healthy state of mind.

One thing I should say is, did your friend get worse after taking the anti-depression pills? If so, it could be the pills that is not for her. Some of these pills have negative effect to some people, meaning, they get more depressed. If this is the case, she needs to get off the pills ASAP. I think this is one thing you can talk to her directly. Maybe she is wondering why she is so depressed recently and it would definitely be a comfort to give it a doubt that it is the chemical reaction and not you, I am sorry for the words but, losing it.

Hi gill2008, I have really thought about your proposal. But I personally voted for my recovered friend to be left as she is happy now and I am really sorry. I do understand that it will help people to acknowledge the pain and to give hope to those who suffer that they are not alone and there is light at the end with a true case which will make them more confident and I know that it is a very selfish conclusion but, when I recall how much she suffered, I really do not want her to slip back to it and I am really scared at the possibility of her slipping back remembering what had triggered it all. ( there was something so specific that had triggered it and after that, everything became a vicious circle) Yes she is off treatment now and she is doing perfectly fine, I am so proud of her, but, it is still new that she recovered. She is now in the process of establishing a new life which is full of happiness and I think this new life has helped her recover enormously but something tells me that she needs more time to completely say that the incident is a thing of the past. Though I know that she is a person that would really want to help others, so when I feel that the time has come, I will tell her your suggestion, maybe not on this forum but, in some way! But please do understand, seeing her misery made me think deeply of what one action can do to one person's life.

As a third person who experienced walking through it, I can tell my experience. Please let me know what sort of info would help.

PS. Sorry for the late reply!!

Hi gill2008. Yes, she was taking medication and seeing a specialist for more than 2 years ie

medications every day plus psychiatrists. During her treatment, there were times that she just could not get up but, her boss was very understanding that the last thing she needed was to be fired because of this so she went on flexible time commitment contract.

I hear that a lot of people suffering from depression or suffering from disorders refuse going to professional care. In her case, since she was a victim of DV, it was easy to flow into professional treatment as the GP we went after she was battered just submitted her to go. I don't like to use this word but, that could be a "technique" to get these people to step into the professional office if they refuse. Go to the GP and have them redirected. I even still wonder, if it were not this situation, how would have we had her go? It is so much necessary for them to be in the care of professionals and proper medication. These are things that just TLC cannot fix once it reaches a certain point...

Another point that it is beneficiary for not the subject but the closest is, the comfort that she is supervised in professional care. That, provided that the doctor is trust worthy and I think that, you can tell from her response to the treatment. Even if she is doing bad, you can tell that she is safe and concentrating on easing her pain rather than worrying if she is going to be OK.
