Pain in jaw

I've has this complaint for quite a few years now, but it doesn't happen that often. The pain is vey specifically situated (half way between my chin and hinge of jaw on the lower right side) and feels like nerve pain and it's in an area about the size of a small 50 cent HK coin. It lasts for as long as a day coming and going and if I press the area hard, it helps, but the pain soon comes back, then eventually it disappears altogether, until the next time. It's normally about 3 months between "episodes". Any ideas on what this could be? I've 'googled' it but had no luck. I don't feel it warrants a visit to the doctor and my teeth are fine. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this?

I think it could be worth visiting a dentist or oral surgeon. From my own experience, I have something called a TMJ problem which is clenching of the jaws at night unknowingly! So I have to wear something like a night guard to prevent this. I didnt think it was a big deal until I went to the dentist and he said almost all of my back teeth are cracked from the grinding. I didnt know I had this problem until the dentist visit and also my mouth cant open that wide. Another possibility is you have some growth in the inner gum area which could be more severe than you think, since my brother in law had that problem and had to get surgery. Good luck.
