As a medical professional, I will look at your case this way: whether it is a pathological or psychological one.
Body weight is a simple maths. , calories you take in minus what your consume. Many scientifc researches proved that by shifting indecent diet to healthy diet can significantly reduce weight. If you are unhappy with realities (your spouse, your own figure, living condition, income level, or SAR govt) and want to seek refuge by eating, that is psychological. Otherwise, I suggest you can enjoy foods and should not feel guilty about being 'a bit chubby'. Obesity is not a sin and just be happy with your life.
However, if it is due to a medical condition that makes you an obessive eater, that means something wrong with pituitary function or hormone level, acupuncture can adjust and restore your internal secretions. You should not feel hungry all the time and thus align and address your apetite issue. Seems to me you are a bit of both and one can interchange to the other. Find out the right diagnosis and treat it accordingly is the best solution.
My 2 cents

I can suggest a great dietician based in Central - Both my husband and I have been seeing her for about 6 months. At first I saw here to help me lose weight as just training wasn't helping enough and I wanted to be in a healthy weight range when we tried to have kids. Now as I'm pregnant she helps me maintain good nutrition during pregnancy (as well as helping me handle morning sickness).
I think in HK it is too easy to find yummy food that isn't so healthy for you - but if you can balance the "treats" with a generally healthy eating lifestyle (not a diet!), then it can also help you avoid the guilt that goes with those big dinners out - like the one I had on Saturday!
In the end it has to be your decision to put in the hard work - there's no magic bullet.

Would love to hear who your dietician is! Also, jollybeans might consider seeing someone at www.imi.com.hk. they could see if there's any physical illness happening which some medical doctors might be missing.

i just heard about this product... any thoughts on it?
What is Hoodia?
Hoodia gordonii is a cactus-like succulent plant, native to the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa.
Hoodia has received a lot of publicity in recent times for its natural appetite suppressant properties.
How does Hoodia work?
The appetite suppressant effects of Hoodia were first observed in 1937 by a Dutch anthropologist studying the primitive San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert.
It was noticed that the nomadic Bushmen, (who call it Xhoba) ate the stem of the Hoodia plant to stave off hunger during long hunting trips in the sparsely vegetated area.
The active ingredient in Hoodia is the appetite-suppressing molecule, P57, which is licensed to the British pharmaceutical company Phytopharm who are researching its potential as an anti-obesity drug.
Scientists from Phytopharm say P57 acts on the brain in a manner similar to glucose. It tricks the brain into thinking you are full even when you have not eaten, reduces interest in food and delays the time before hunger sets in.

Let's face it. Why we all want to be skinny? Guess modern human body are not meant to be skinny after all. Even those skinny models are having so much trouble to keep them size 0. Poor them, it's a part of their job to be looking like that and even compete each other.
What’s wrong about flab on your arms? What about love handle? Why don't we love our curve? There were some periods, these full curves are appreciated. Just wrong timing. Anyway, even I lose all that fat, I know I will not look like a model in magazine. Btw those pictures are artworks after touch up with photoshop.
I know many people worry about their weights even though they are in perfectly healthy range of body weights. Probably not so skinny, in real slightly chubby. Yes, I'm one of them.
You tried to lose weights and succeed it for a while. Then all back on. Yes, I had that yo-yo things twice. And my mum scolded me for that. It’s bad for you!!!! Maybe she’s right. Somehow our body are meant to maintain certain weights to be happy or for whatever reason.
I go to gym or yoga class at least 4-5 times per week. I love walking and hiking. But I also love cooking and eating with my family and friends. And I get super grumpy if I’m hungry. How can I be skinny? I’m far from perfect. Short legs, chubby arms and thighs…I can never wear skinny jean, turtle neck or tight jersey dress like my skinny bi*ch friend.
Honestly better decide what you want. Enjoy what I have or morn and worry about what I don't have. Guess with this curve, I can wear low cut dress beautifully showing my cleavage without a help of wonder bra. So can you. And wear confident smile and enjoy dinner with your loved ones. Ah, laugh a lot. That helps to burn some extra calorie as well as adding on your personality point. I might not be a stunning model. But I’m not-too-bad looking and that’s surely enough to enjoy my life and yummy food.

I was unhappy with my weight even though I was like you and only a little bit soft around the edges. I joined Weight Watchers and have since reached my goal weight and have maintained this weight for over 1 year. I highly recommend their program. You can find their meeting locations and times on their website...www.weightwatchers.com.hk.

Ultimately it should be simple. Less In and More Out (as in exercise). Moderation is the key. Eat what you like but in moderation and exercise. Portion Control.
Be careful about buying drugs over the counter with no prescription just because someone told you about them. There is a reason why they are on prescription only.
Reductil is a drug that aids weight loss. Principally it is for the clinically obese, those who are overweight and those whose weight causes medical complications wiht a BMI of over 30. Reductil is NOT for use as a general slimming aid. It is contraindicated in many cases.
Such as:
Pregnant women or nursing mothers. (Women who are still able to conceive should take birth control whilst taking Reductil. In all cases consult with your doctor. Reductil does not affect birth control.)
· Individuals who suffer from blood pressure complications
· Individuals who are taking prescription medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (known as MAOI's)
· Individuals who suffer from Parkinson's or any other disorder
· Individuals who are taking other weight loss medication
· Individuals who have had prior reactions to Reductils or sibutramine
· Individuals who have had a heart attack
· Individuals who have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure or coronary artery disease
· Individuals with irregular heart beats (arrhythmias)
· Individuals who have liver or kidney conditions
· Individuals who have had a stroke or at risk of a stroke
· Individuals who suffer from anorexia nervosa
· Individuals who suffer from or who have had seizures
· Individuals who suffer from depression
· Individuals who have eye disorders.
· Individuals who are taking any medication that regulate the neurotransmitter serotonin

It all comes down to balancing the intake and consumption of calories. Go to dieticians definitely work but I wonder only a few can religiously follow the diets. The best way is to go for substitution meals that are low calories and full of balanced nutrition! Something that can reduce your fat but not muscles! That is very important. That's also why one should not fast in order to lose weight since metabolism will be disrupted and you will lose muscle instead of fat if you do not eat -definitely not the result you want! My friend lost 2 kgs in a week by using one of these substitution meals (1 normal meal + 2 sub. meals per day) anddrinking lots of water. Skype me (sesamesuzy) if you want more info.

I have just moved to Hong Kong and I'm finding it so hard to control my weight. does the heat make people hungry? I feel like I want to eat all the time!
Please support our advertisers:
I guess it is the eating out and drinking that makes controlling weight difficult. Definitely not the hot weather - if that makes you consume more ice-cream and soft drinks, that's a different story:). It is so convenient here in HK. My expat coworkers always tell me it is cheaper to eat out than cook! Unfortunately there is often too much oil/fat in the food if you eat out (esp. Chinese cuisine). Plus they are drinking way too much during happy hours:) and have relatively less opportunities exercising/ playing sports. One must watch his/her diet to stay in shape but never skip meals; at the same time exercise to boost metabolism. I am after low calories meals, drinking plenty of water (3.5litres per day) and moderately exercise a few times a week (I am 160cm/48.6kg). If you are interested in the low cal meal, you can PM me:)!
