Desperately Seeking Pediatrician Recommendation in North Point

ORIGINAL POST

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with my first and desperately still looking for a pediatrician that is nearby. I live in North Point and would like to find someone close by (ie - not Central or Wan Chai) with good patient report. Local doctors are fine, just should be good with babies and new moms! Does anyone have any recommendations? I know there are a few of you living in North Point, have you found any good ones?

I live in North Point too. My boy has been seeing a paediatrician Dr. Ng Cheuk in St Paul's Hospital in Causeway Bay.

His consultation fees are normally &150 to $250 (depends on the hours of the visit) and together with meds, I only pay $200 to $400 per consultation. He has been very thorough and would not prescribe meds/procedures/tests unless they are necessary.

The only problem is that you cannot book in advance, sometimes it can be 1 to 2 hours wait at a time. I usually drive there and has my boy's name on the list early in the morning (make sure that he will be the first one to be seen at 9 am), go back to pick up my helper and my boy. Otherwise, it only costs $20- $30 on taxi to get there, depends on which part of North Point your are.

When my boy was very young, I took him to the Anne Black Materanl & Childcare Centre for regular checkups and most injections. It is completely free for kids born in HK (Family Health Service of the Department of Health).

The services there are very good, you can ring up to make appointments. The nurses there speak reasonable English and the have all the health infos in English as well. They teach you how to breast feed the baby properly and give you tips to look after newborns.

My boy was born with a slight jaundice and they picked it up in Anne Black straight away. They got me to see the resident doctor Anne Black, who sent my boy for emergency blood tests and follow up in the Pamela Youde Nethersole Hospital in Chai Wan.

My boy was born in Canossa Hospital and we were discharged the day before I took him to Anne Black. The nurses and the doctor in Canossa did not pick it up and I was not impressed at all. I paid $40,000 for natural delivery in Canossa, all they wanted to sell me was the paediatric package which would cost another $10,000.

Good luck!
