Hi Guys,
I'm starting a new thread on this forum to get some feedback from people who may have done a laser surgery in HK.
I've been told that Hk Sanatorium Hospital are the best in this kind of surgery but they are also expensive.
I know there is Quality Health Care Asia that provide such treatment.
Does anybody had to make such choice between those 2? What is your recommendation?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers

I don't know about Hong Kong but I think you should think beyond Hong Kong simply for cost reasons.
I did it myself in the Philippines in 2003 and think it's the best investment I ever did in my whole life. Dr Robert Ang from the Asian Eye institute did mine and I paid USD 1,000 for two eyes.
They also offer a combination of LASIK with some holidays in the Philippines, which is what a lot of Korean and Japanese are doing.
The only botched LASIK surgery I have ever heard of was my former boss' wife. She did it at the top hospital in Singapore and they programmed the computer with eye data of another patient...
LASIK is a 5 minute surgery done by a computer without stay at the hospital, so in my view the following are the points to look out for:
a) Ensure they use the latest generation of LASIK equipment from Germany. In my times that was generation 3 but for sure by now they have moved to generation 4 or beyond.
b) Ensure the doctor takes time to measure the eye and has absolutely no doubts about it. Wrong measure -> wrong eyes in the end.
c) Ensure that whoever programs the computer uses the right data (see experience above)
Overall, in my view LASIK is a surgery where the skill of the doctor is less important (he/she does barely anything except dilute your eye and cut the eye flap)and the PROCESS they use is of consistent high quality.

I had my lasik surgery done 2 years ago at The Hong Kong Baptist Hospital. The result was great (I was -11.0). You can't imagine how wonderful it is to wake up with clear vision:)!! It cost about HK$18,000- but I guess it will be even cheaper now. http://www.hkbh.org.hk
Many people go to lasik centres as they are cheaper but personally I have more confidence in hospitals. Try to do some more research for comparison.

btw i went to some lasik centers in hong kong once when a friend was planning to do it. i have to admit i was plain shocked by their low standards to everything - equipment, risk control, explanations to patients, etc

Cookie09, that's what I thought so I went to hospital instead of lasik centres! I had seen the doctor for detailed consultation and my eyes carefully checked at the hospital before making my decision to go for the surgery. And on the day the surgery was done, my eyes were checked again to ensure I was "fit" for the surgery. The package also included 6 follow up check ups thereafter. I am totally happy with the result and the service:)!
