I've searched the old threads and quite a lot of recommended dentists no longer seem to be there. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable and experienced dentist to do implants? How about the doctors in Bayley and Jackson? Also, very confused...do you need to first go to a dentist then a dental surgeon or do you just go straight to the dental surgeon to do the procedure and seek advice?

Can't recommend but there is a list of dentists in Hong Kong here http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/directory/expat-health-services/dentists/

Do the Quality Heathcare Dental clinics price differently at different locations? Is it cheaper to visit the clinic at Quarry Bay than the clinic in Central? I need a lot of work done on my teeth--crown, bridge and veneer. Any recommendation and advice are much appreciated.

Do you have a preference on where the dentist is trained? US, UK, HK?

Hi bamarama,
There are several good dentists at Bayley and Jackson, but if you are thinking of getting implants, you can consult one of the general dentists who will discuss how they can help you in restoring your teeth. If you only want implants, perhaps you can try consulting the oral surgeon at their practice.
I would suggest consulting Dr. Wor Lam to discuss your situation or consulting Dr. Richie Yeung who is one of their in-house specialists. Both are very reliable and are experienced.
Hope this helps

Thank u DMFT for the recommendations! I will definitely seek them out. Was confused at first because some ppl advised on working with two dentists--the general one and the surgeon, whereas, others said just the oral surgeons will do if its about implants. Weak gums have caused tooth to become loose and implants are now needed. Thank u all.

I will not go to Dr, Wor Lam or Richie Yeung at Bayley & Jackson. I highly recommend Dr. Edward Hui ( 1901-03 The Centre, 99 Queen's Road Central, 2851-4888).
You may want to go for a second opinion with Dr. Hui if you have been to Bayley & Jackson already. you will like Dr. Hui much better than those two. Its based on my personal experience.

hongkongunderdog, I have sent u a pm. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Is it possible for a doctor to say that implants cannot be done coz there is no bone left to sustain it...and that I have to live with dentures???? I am almost about to give up on HK dentists...they r either sooo after your money or not willing to do complicated procedures...

It is entirely possible that you do not have enough bone to sustain implants however, you may try some "regenerative" procedures to build up bone quantity (mostly horizontal width, and never vertically) which will be costly and requires several months of healing before you can actually place the implant.
But for the majority of cases, dentures must be provided in order to determine the exact positioning of the future teeth on the implants.
If you really require this treatment, it will require lots of time and financial support

Hi bamarama,
I understand your frustation, luckily from this website I found a New Zealand dentist Mike Smith in Central (Tel: 25222099)who has Dr Sandy Jain from Auckland. He has masters degree in implants and gums and he did my 2 implant screws and teeth after I was told I did not have bone a year ago. I would not go to a general dentist for implants, in case something goes wrong. Very reliable and they didn't rip me off.

Thank you again for the advice. Kiwimum, so you did implants even tho they said you did not have a bone? Did it go well? I've been to 2 already and like neither one. Opposing views and unprofessional attitudes. Is it worth it to go for a 3rd advice? I've come upon the impression that some ppl are actually promoting themselves or are related to the dentists or else I just can't understand the recommendations that were made earlier.

Hi Bamarama, I feel for you as I have been in your shoes. Not sure about your situation but for me I felt right with them as they were also from NZ and knew what I was saying( and they actually listened....).My implants look great and were done last year, they are right in front too so you can understand my apprehension. I guess I was lucky as Sandy is trained in gum disease and he said he usually sees patients who have lost lots of bone with pus etc. I do not know what will work for you but my advise is get some opinions and then go with your gut feeling. Good luck.
